The (No) Waste Land

One event that grabbed the attention of sports lovers in 2008 was Euro 20083, which was held jointly by Switzerland and Austria between June 7, and June 29, 2008. The tournament was played at eight venues – four in Austria and four in Switzerland.4

Like other cities where the matches were held, Zürich also made several arrangements such as converting some areas into pedestrian zones, and setting up Fan Mile5. But there was one feature that differentiated Zürich from other cities holding the Euro 2008. In Zürich, fans were to use returnable glasses for drinking beer, and non-alcoholic beverages were to be sold in recyclable bottles.
